"Niraikanai" is a folk belief in the Okinawa/Amami region that a god comes from a paradise across the sea. In this work, a mysterious scene about which Ikuko had heard from the local people is expressed by drawing the rounded horizon and the sea at night when the full moon floats, and writing the words "God of the sea far away".
Since this painting is mounted on a hanging scroll using a traditional Japanese technique by a craftsperson (“Ippodo”), it can not only be preserved and appreciated with original quality for decades, but also conveniently rolled up to be portable.
